Local Significance
We are a student-run startup based in East Hampton, New York. Our beaches are internationally known for their beauty and ignite tourist-heavy summers year after year, with local spots being ranked 2nd and 6th for "Best Beaches In America In 2024" by Forbes Magazine. Many locals (Yes, some people live here full time!) worry about the effects seasonal tourism can have on the environment, especially when enjoyment of the outdoors often comes with large amounts of pollution. We chose to tackle the issue of flip-flop pollution as it is footwear commonly used for beach days, but made out of extremely harmful materials such as polyurethane, plastic foam or cheap rubbers. Our goal is to keep our oceans clean for generations to enjoy the same beautiful beaches that we grew up making memories at.
